I haven't been posting much recently, lots of stuff going on and I'm spending a lot of time reading and thinking instead of writing. I've got a list of things I want to write about, but haven't been motivated to do so. Soon.
So here's a quick update of the things that are going on:
- My Grandpa died yesterday afternoon. Yeah, just typing that made me have to stop and get my shit back together for a bit.
- I've been reading a lot, I've become a big time physics and medicine information sponge. A feature of Google Reader that I was wary about at first (the shared links) has turned into a great way for me to select the stuff I think is the most interest and share it with my wife (whether or not she's interested), and vice versa. In typical Google style they made a very smart decision: You do not need to use Google Reader to see my shared items, so if you're interested take a look at this link. Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like to see it in your Google Reader. Update: Another smart thing, Google has provided an feed link for shared items, so you can just subscribe to that and not have to do anything specific in Google Reader! Awesome.
- I've been tempted to get back into politics (after an eight or so year hiatus), and have been thinking about exactly how I would approach it in such a way that it wouldn't make me feel dirty. I've got some ideas, still brainstorming.
- Lots of exercise, and now working with a personal trainer about once a week. I'm seeing and feeling a big difference in only a couple weeks, and having the trainer appointment gives me something to focus on. If I don't make it to the gym at least twice a week other than my appointment with him, I know it is going to hurt a lot more. Now that's motivation.
- Trying to be more social, especially with the groups my wife has been hanging out with for a few years now. Mixed success here, but overall I'm having more fun.
- I'm currently following the MacWorld Expo keynote update avidly because I really want an awesome laptop with a solid state drive, and they just announced one. I can't wait to take a look at it and see if it is what I was hoping for. It looks really interesting, and very expensive.
- Work is going well, I've had more time off due to the holidays than I'm happy with but that's not too big of a deal. Due to everything else being crazy I haven't had time to work on my side project or my consulting ideas, hopefully things will calm down and they'll get more attention soon.
- Been on an emotional rollercoaster recently, I'm really hoping it evens out soon. Exhausting and not fun.
- Overall I've been quite happy with TypePad as a blogging/hosting solution, and now I'm looking to move more and more of our stuff onto it. Trying to see if that makes sense for the different sites we have, and it could make it reasonable for us to move off other hosts and save some money at the same time. About the only gotcha is email so far, maybe I can find a cheap redirector.
