I've been putting off writing this for a few weeks now, however since Friday was my last day at TalentSpring I suppose I'm already late.
I left the startup I helped found back in Oct/Nov (there's a significant difference between when I started working on it and when the final papers were signed, making it official and starting vesting schedules etc.).
The most basic reason for leaving is that the early stage startup life (no salary, no benefits, very few real opportunities to take vacations, my wife sacrificing time away from her photography to work a full time job so we have money and insurance, lots of stress with the business not being where you might hope it would be yet, etc.) was not working for my wife and I.
I still believe in the business plan and the basic business model, and I hope for the best for company. Bryan Starbuck is a very smart and extremely hard working guy, and I have no doubt he'll do everything he possibly can to ensure the company's success.
Once I made the decision with my wife I started looking for a good time to exit that would minimize the disruption. That came about a month ago when key milestones were met in the product development and an excellent dev hire was made.
Now I'm spending my time looking for a full time, paying job. I'm most interested in the games and financial industries, I've talked to or approached five companies so far and talked to a headhunter unproductively. If you've got something interesting, let me know; especially if you're in the Greater Seattle area (we're open to relocation for the right opportunities).
Let me know, I'm happy to discuss.
